Videoinstallation an Gebäudefassade, München 2011
Loop der 3 minütigen Sequenz

video

The concept of bunter abend refers to Minimal Art and Radical Painting, but it is more than just the use of the same attitude for the media film.
Contrary to the trend in computer animation for complex details, the work discusses the opportunity to outplay analogue high resoluted filming by digital animation in a reduced composition – with the simple process of pouring paint down a plane.
Currently digital simulation overtakes the (photographic) reality: the animated brayers look more plastic and impressive, even like professionally illuminated brayers.
Therefore bunter abend also issues this imposition in the visual world and its perception-theoretical consequences.

In Munich the cycle of 6 hues was looped and played for 3 weeks from dusk till 1:30 in the morning.
Shown in video screenings at the LOOP-Festival in Barcelona and the RE-LOOP Festival in Edinburgh, it was reduced to 6+1 hues - one cycle of 3 minutes: starting and finishing with the hue white.
